Product additional information

The forrunner of the song has been a march written by Melartin for the students of Savonlinna Lyceum in 1895. The text comes from the pen of Karl August Snellman, a lecturer in mathematics, physics and chemistry at the school. Melartin edited the song into a male choir version in 1907. The song’s circular quality, built from the beginning in the major, the intermediate part changing to minor, and the repeating final part in the major, represents the provincial songs at their best. The uncomplicated four-tone movement of the melody makes the song an uplifting opening for celebration of any kind.

Laulun esimuotona on ollut Melartinin Savonlinnan lyseon toverikunnalle kirjoittama marssi vuodelta 1895. Teksti on lähtöisin koulun matematiikan, fysiikan ja kemian lehtori Karl August Snellmanin kynästä. Melartin muokkasi laulusta mieskuoroversion 1907. Kehysmuotoisena, duurissa alkava, molliin poikkeava ja takaisin duuriin päätyvä laulu edustaa maakuntalauluja parhaimmillaan. Konstailematon neliääninen äänenkuljetus tekee laulusta kohottavan alkukappaleen juhlaan kuin juhlaan.
