Shields, Finn

Finn Shields (b.1994) is a British composer based in Helsinki, Finland.

He has written for orchestra, chamber groups, choir, solo piano and many other ensembles, and his music has been performed internationally.

Finn principally writes concert music, but has also written scores for short films and other projects. Now settled in Finland, Finn studied at the Sibelius Academy from which he graduated in June 2022. An active member of the Korvat Auki contemporary music society, Finn served as chairman from 2020 to 2021 – he is also vicechair of UNM music festival.

In 2022, Finn was awarded joint second prize in the composition competition of the union of Finnish female choirs. Finn’s work has been supported by such organisations as the Martin Wegelius foundation, Sibelius Fund, Wihuri Foundation, Helsinki City, TAIKE, and the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
