Viitasaari, Markku

PhD, Phil.lic. Markku Viitasaari (b.1966) is a Finnish large-scaled professional of music, culture, education and administration. He is currently working as a director of Professional Teacher Education Unit in Oulu University of Applied Sciences.

The longest period of his career he has worked as head of department of education and culture, in Kauhajoki and Kauhava. In addition, he has worked as a class teacher in elementary school, as a teacher of ear training & music theory, as a principal of music college, as a head of department of education & culture, as a university teacher (music education) and, as an art teacher in vocational college. Viitasaari defended his doctoral thesis in University of Oulu Graduate School in December the 18th, 2020.

Markku Viitasaari has composed mainly for wind ensembles and choirs. His catalogue consists of over 300 works around four decades from the 1980´s to present. He has achieved 24 quotations in composition contests, two of them in US.

Viitasaari’s works have been published by Edition Blosari, Edition 7, The Finnish Wind Band Association, STM-music and SULASOL.
