Melartin participated in the composition competition of YL Male Voice Choir with the September Summer male choir song, completed in October 1899. Using the same text by Juhani Aho, Melartin wrote a mixed choir song almost 30 years later. That song can be found under the entry September Summer, Op 142, No. 7. The songs are completely different in their musical themes and are two different, independent choral songs.

Lokakuussa 1899 valmistuneella mieskuorolaulullaan Syyskuun kesä Melartin osallistui YlioppilaskunnanLaulajien sävellyskilpailuun. Säveltäjä kirjoitti samaan Juhani Ahon tekstiin sekakuorolaulun lähes 30 vuotta myöhemmin, 1928. Sekakuorolaulu löytyy merkinnällä Syyskuun kesä, op.142, nro 7. Laulut poikkeavat kokonaan toisistaan ja ovat kaksi itsenäistä kuorolaulua.
