Product additional information
The text of the poet who changed his name from Ilmari Calamnius to Ilmari Kianto in 1906 was published in 1898. Melartin must have composed his composition the following year, in 1899. The song Olla mullai is a two-verse quarter song, the downward melodies of which tend to exude with longing for being the master of one’s own life. The straightforward movement of the melody and the unified word rhythm of the parts suggest that the message come directly from the people: if only it was our own house, stove and our own rafters, then hymns of joy would start to roll and favorable melodies play. The movement for independence in the country was already nearing completion. The YL Male Voice Choir led by Selim Palmgren premiered the song on December 5, 1902.
Ilmari Calamniuksesta Ilmari Kiannoksi nimensä vuonna 1906 muuttaneen runoilijan teksti on julkaistu 1898. Melartin lienee tehnyt sävellyksensä seuraavana vuonna 1899. Laulu on kaksisäkeistöinen kvartettilaulu, jonka alaspäiset melodiakaarrokset suorastaan tihkuvat kaipuuta oman elämän herraksi. Ylioppilaskunnan Laulajat kantaesitti laulun Selim Palmgrenin johdolla 5.12.1902.
