Product additional information
The lyrics of the Häälaulu (Wedding Song) as well as the Ikävä (Longing) song are both from J. H. Erkko’s Wedding of the North. Melartin renamed the song when it was adapted for male choir In April 1907. In the play, the song is Pellervo’s song accompanied by Väinämöinen’s kantele. The music that now plays the themes of the orchestral overture has changed so much that this male choir version should be considered an independent composition. The symbolic text, quoting from the fables, soon turns to glorify the roar of the aurora borealis – the northern lights, the sparkle of the snow and the light of spring-time night. More victorious than these, however, is the wonderful beauty of the Maiden of the North. The YL Male Voice Choir premiered the song on November 23, 1907.
Näitä voittoisammaksi kohoaa kuitenkin Pohjan immen ihana kauneus. Ylioppilaskunnan Laulajat kantaesitti laulun 23.11.1907.
