Castelli, Gianluca

Gianluca Castelli (b. 1985), an Italian composer, graduated with highest grades in Music Composition from Conservatorio G. Verdi in Torino. From the same institute he obtained the Diploma in Choral Music and Choir Conduction. He pursued his studies with A. Colla and in 2015 he completed a Post Master Degree (Exzellenzstudiengang) in Composition at the R. Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf with J. M. Sanchèz-Verdù.

His compositions have been performed by important musicians, ensembles and orchestras in many festivals such as Oslo Grieg Festival, MiTo Settembre Musica, Weimarer Frühjahrstage für zeitgenössische Musik, VocalEspoo, Solent Music Festival in Europe, Canada, Uruguay and Kazakistan.

He has been awarded prizes and recognitions: among others the Lawson-May Award 2021, VocalEspoo 2018, K. Penderecki Composition Competition 2017, Quatuor Molinari Composition Competition 2016, Red Note New Music Competition.

He currently work as composition and music theory teacher (Dortmund Musik, Rheinische Musikschule Köln) and freelance composer and arranger.
