Honkanen, Osmo

Osmo Honkanen (b. 1964) is a Finnish composer and organist.

He has studied at the Sibelius Academy both composition with Erkki Jokinen and Paavo Heininen and church music with the organ as his main instrument. Honkanen has written choral, orchestral, chamber and electro-acoustic music and, of course, great amount of organ works. He has become the most prominent organ composer of his generation in Finland. Honkanen’s music has been performed and broadcasted in and outside Europe and he has received prizes in numerous composition competitions.
