Burgmann, Niels

Niels Burgmann (b.1975) is a Finnish organist, composer and choral conductor.

Niels Burgmann, the organist in St.Matthews church in Helsinki, studied church music and organ at the music college in Piteå, Sweden, and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, for Mattias Wager, prof. Hans-Ola Ericsson and Markku Hietaharju. He gained his diploma in 2002. At the Sibelius Academy, Burgmann also studied composition and his works have been awarded in competitions nationally and internationally.

As a solo organist Burgmann often gives concerts in Finland and Sweden and has also appeared in the Baltic states, Norway, England and Austria. His interest in timbre and sound colours can be heard especially in his interpretations of the works of the late romantic and modern era.

Burgmann is also the conductor of two chamber choirs and is at the moment studying choral conducting with Jani Sivén at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. He is often invited to chamber music projects and regularly gives concerts together with oboist Keijo Silventoinen and flautist Erica Nygård.
